Friedrich Schleiermacher proposed a similar idea in regards to translation as Venuti. Schleiermacher believed, “either the translator leaves the writer in peace as much as possible and moves the reader toward him, or he leaves the reader in peace as much as possible and moves the writer toward him.” (Munday 29).

The first part of this quote is equal to Venuti’s foreignizing technique while the later half of the quote reflects the domesication technique.
